We can safely build with torches. Roofers are required to be trained how to safely and properly use torches.

The National Roofing Contractors Association has developed and fully implemented the CERTA Training Program for this purpose.

Certified Roofing Torch Applicator (CERTA) training ensures that workers can safely install torch-down roofing materials.

*Initial training is required. *Refresher training is required every 3-years.

Written and practical exams are provided to ensure the greatest levels of compliance.

  • Get qualified under NRCA's CERTA roofing torches training program.

    Heat the trowel

A first step in torch safety is not directly heating the area of installation, whether a new installation or a patch. By heating the trowel, this reduces fire hazards on the project.

  • Person using a propane torch near a black roofing membrane in a hands-on CERTA training.

    Working around penetrations safely

Prepare and heat materials for penetrations away from them. Often, penetrations can have gaps that will allow sparks to enter them. This poses a large fire hazard, if not done properly.

    Working the field

When working the field, we are able to expedite the process using other torches.
